Ungan Park , located near Tango Peninsula, is known for its azaleas.It is believed that Ungan-ji Temple was built at this site, where monks practiced asceticism, and it is now arranged and known as Ungan Park.At the top of the park, there is a huge rock called “Kumoiwa.” This name comes from the old legend which the cloud Bishamonten (the god of Buddhism) rode turned into a rock, who was a guard of Monju Bosatsu (Manjusri).From early to mid-April, approximately 5,000 azaleas bloom beautifully, creating an azalea tunnel. This beauty is selected as one of “200 Best Natural Beauties of Kyoto”. From Kumoiwa, you can enjoy a panoramic view and a heartwarming landscape.

Yosano-cho is the birthplace of Tango Chirimen, a luxury silk fabric that flourished from the Edo period to the early Showa period. Many ancient buildings remain along the “Chirimen Kaido,” which has been selected as an Important Preservation District for Groups of Traditional Buildings. We also recommend you try hand-weaving and dressing in a kimono.
