Oomoto features numerous precious structures, including Chōseiden Hall, often called “the greatest wooden architecture of the 20th century.” In autumn, the grounds are dyed crimson with autumn leaves, weaving a breathtaking scene. When the foliage reaches its peak, the “Ayabe Momiji (Japanese maple) Festival” is held. For three days, the area is illuminated, creating a mystical scene where light and autumn leaves reflect on the water's surface. On the 29th and 30th, enjoy the festive atmosphere with outdoor tea ceremonies, koto concerts, and food stalls. Along the Kurotani River, which flows between Ayabe City and Maizuru City, lies the Kurotani Village. Here, the traditional ancient method of hand-made washi paper is preserved. Thanks to the pure water and abundant wild kozo (paper mulberry) plants, the tradition of papermaking has been rooted here for over 800 years, creating a beautiful landscape that seems frozen in time.
